I have an HP Envy 700-049. I noticed it had a 460 watt power supply, does that mean it will be compatible with any graphics card that uses less than that?

More about : compatible graphics card

Couple of things to check: 1- does your motherboard have 2 open slots, if not you will have to get a single slot card 2- does your power supply have a 6 pin or 8 pin power connector, most hps don't, this means you will be limited to the low end video cards, the best being a 750ti 3- do you have and extra hard drives, cd drives, etc that will being pulling extra power because 460w will be pushing it because the power supplies hp use won't output anywhere close to 460w

Looking at the power supply specs it here

it looks like it uses a standard atx size so you may be able to buy a better power supply that will be able to handle any gpu. But OEMs tend to do funky things so that standard atx power supplies won't fit
