Hello guys, I've decided that it's time to upgrade my little guy over here with some muscles. My budget 1000$ dollar. Let me tell you guys what parts already installed in my PC and what I'd upgrade.

My PC Spec's:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti 3GB
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz
RAM: KingSton 8GB
MB: Intel z77
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 800W ATX 12v 2.3

Things i would like to upgrade are CPU and MotherBoard, for the CPU i would like to get (Intel Core i7-4790K Processor) and for the MotherBoard i dont have any idea but i would like to get something that will last long and i wont need to upgrade it for great period of time.

So guys these are the things I'd like to upgrade which are the i7-4790K and a good MB you suggest. Also if there is any thing else other than the MotherBoard i need to upgrade in order to install the new CPU.

If you're not fond of replacing your motherboard too often, then a H97/Z97 chipset motherboard would be ideal. The 9 series motherboards will support the next generation of Intel processors, which is 5th generation Broadwell. Broadwell will use the same socket as our current generation Haswell, which is socket 1150; hence the H97/Z97 motherboards are forward compatible with Broadwell, as well as compatible with the current Haswell generation.

After Broadwell (5th gen), the next generation will be Skylake (6th gen). Skylake will however utilise a different socket, socket 1151 and is expected to be released next year towards the end of 2015, or beginning of 2016. Two years later after Skylake, Intel will most likely release another new...

Thank you for your fast respond turkey3_scratch. I wont be overclocking anything so I'm looking for a motherboard which can support the most parts out there in the market which mean if i need to upgrade my cpu or gpu i dont need to upgrade my MB no more. thanks!

Skylake will however utilise a different socket, socket 1151 and is expected to be released next year towards the end of 2015, or beginning of 2016. Two years later after Skylake, Intel will most likely release another new socket, requiring another motherboard upgrade. Intel release new sockets every two years, and most likely will do so for the next 2 years (less than or around 1 year remaining as of time of writing) if history is anything to go by.

So purchasing a H97/Z97 motherboard will be compatible with the next generation Broadwell, but not 6th generation Skylake. Skylake and 7th generation Cannonlake will both require a different motherboard, socket 1151.

Personally I'd wait it out for Skylake to release before upgrading your system, since it is to introduce more cores and DDR4 RAM into mainstream (hence should provide additional performance over existing Ivy Bridge/Haswell and the to-be-released Broadwell too), but it's completely your call.

All the best. :)
