So ive had my Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-X for about 2 months now and i have noticed that when my computer is idle or when i am just surfing the internet artifacts, lines, flicker randomly on my monitor. However the weird thing is the minute any kind of graphicly intense operation takes place such as a video play back on youtube, mpc, or playing a game the artifacts disappear and stay disappeared until about an hour after the graphic's card cooled down. My card came factory overclocked, but i dont think that should be a problem since this only happens when the card is idle and the clock speed is ramped down.

Edit: forgot to mention that even when the video or game is in the background or in another tab gets rid of the artifacts

But i find it odd that when the graphics card starts to do work by rendering a video that the artifacts disappear completely until a while after it has finished working and starts idling again.

It is a driver problem. This was known for many 290s / 290Xs out there. Are you using the latest driver?
