I have an r9 280x 3gb currently clocked at 1050mhz. the other parts are here http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Jdogz427Gaming/saved/rzFZx...

Should i rather than buying a second 280x and bigger psu, go for an r9 290x like the asus directCUII. if i do the 290x i am pretty sure my current psu would be more than enough to handle it. From what i read there should be little to no bottlenecking, but what about the heat. the way my case is set up, i have a 200 mm fan blowing fresh air on the gpu so that should help.

Also, can i run triple surround, or would that be pushing the card?

More about : wait 290x

also, if needed, if for some reason i wanted to add a second gpu later on, I should be planning to overclock my cpu, right? my cooler should handle getting rid of the heat, but if i overclock my psu might not be powerful enough becuase i heard that overclocking these fx cards adds a significant amount of power need

You've got a Corsair CX750 power supply. For 2 x 280x's you'll need a good quality 900W power supply. For a R9 290x you'll need a good quality 650W power supply.
Good quality power supplies are from tier 1, 2a and 2b of http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1804779/power-su...
The Corsair CX are from tier 3.

2 x 280x's will preform about 20% than a 290x. But some games don't work or work well with crossfire.

I gotta agree with above comment about PSU. 750W is too low for Crossfire 280x and a AMD (power hungry) CPU. 850W is a minimum for Crossfire.

My vote is to sell the 280x and upgrade to 290x if you want 1440p gaming or 144Hz monitor. Why do you want to upgrade your graphics?

I realize i can max out almost any game i currently have, but i am not getting 60 fps in some of the newer games. I was really trying to avoid having to buy a new psu. I was planning on waiting till end of Nov sales anyway, unless a significant price drop happens before that, but I am probably going r9 290x and this psu. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-hx750 what do you think?

If you go 290X then 750W is fine. My PSU vote is Gold, fully modular, and made by Seasonic; all for $90ish.

Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 290X 4GB Tri-X Video Card ($545.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: XFX ProSeries 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $635.98
