Hi, I'm looking to upgrade to a r9 280(x) soon, but 1st i'll have to upgrade my PSU as it isnt a very stable one. so I was wondering which one would me my best option.
I was looking into the corsair cx750 as this one is the "cheapest" certified GPU on the website I'm planning to buy from, here is the link: https://www.alternate.be/Corsair/CX750-750-Watt-voeding...

I know 750 watt is overkill for one r9 280 but in the future I'm planning to crossfire this. is this sufficient for crossfire, and is there a big difference in power usage between the r9280 and the r9 280x

which would be the brand to go for? for now I'm choising between sapphire and MSI (MSI having a slightly better performance due to a higher factory overclock)

as for now I'm using a gtx 760 which is 9 months old now, but seeing as the r9 280 is a bit better and the r9 280x being better and only a few euro's more expensive I am going to upgrade to be more future proof.

then anotherquestion, how is the AMD mantle doing? is this being sup^ported, or going to be supported by the majority of relativly new games and games that have yet to be released?

I would look this up myself but I'm not finding the time for now so I would greatly appreciate your help.

I'd prefer the PSU to come from belgium and the currency in euro.

kind regards,
Tsuneo

That PSU is a good quality one, and if you plan on crossfire later you should be totally fine too. And MSI have good cooling and GPUs overall i'd go for them. Mantle i think is only running on few games, I only see it in bf4 and with the coming of dx12 i don't think it's going to be that much of a thing. (not an nvidia fanboy just the way I think).

I completely disagree with using Corsair CX series. They PSU are mediocre and is not good for crossfire setups. The only good Corsair series are AX, HXi and HX.
Stick with EVGA SuperNova G2, P2 or B2 series, XFX, Seasonic or Antec brands. Try going for 850W if crossfiring R9 280X.
Or choose any series from Tier one or Tier two:

I don't see Mantle a big game changer yet unless they implement something else that DirectX 12 won't get. Also The R9 285 is released soon.

MSI has decent gpu cooler but check out Sapphire Vapor-X, they are one of the best coolers to use. Factory overclock doens't mean anything if you going to overclock your gpu. If you not looking to overclock then, the R9 280X might be a better option.

However, I don't see the point of upgrading from GTX 760 to a R9 280. A better upgrade is the R9 290 or the newer GTX 800/900 series

No PSU corsair cx750 is tier 3 and is very bad PSU.

I would buy XFX 750W if I were you, for the GPU wait till new nvidia series comes out and buy one of those. GTX760 is good for one more year

I don't know why the negative views on the CX750. It was proven in a lot of cases of it's reliability on running SLI and Crossfire machines. It's not the best but it can indeed handle your system. Overclocking won't be an option as your system maybe tight with that PSU depending on other parts, but it can run it. This is not my saying it's the actual people who have their multi gpus with the CX dragging their system through games. You would be totally fine with the CX750 op and you can look it up on the internet if you need to be more assured. Otherwise it's your choice :)

Why? Because CX series are tier 3 while XFX PRO series are tier 2 for the same money...

I'll take a look at the tier 2 and 1 series then, and also, the crossfiring can wait for another year or 2, it's just to have a general idea. so far I read good reviews on that PSU though.

I know the gtx 760 is good for at least one more year, but the r9280x is better, almost on the same level as the gtx770. also it has 3 gigs of VRAM instead of 2, games are developping fast and are starting to need more then 2 gigs.
also, my gtx 760 is 9 months old and I found someone who is willing to buy it for a 175 euro's still. which seems like a good deal to me seeing as I bought it for 220. If I have to wait for the 800 series to come out, which is probably in october? my buyer will have bought another card already so I lose that deal.
I did take a look at the r9 290 aswell, but I cant scrape enough money together fast enough. otherwise I would have gone for that!

and then one more thing. my mobo only supports crossfire, thats why I'm stepping away from nvidia and the price per performance from AMD is undeniable better.

thanks for the input everyone! it's greatly appreciated

I wouldnt say it's a very bad PSU, it's just not as good as tier 1 and 2 but still good enough for what I need, i'm not going to OC my graphics cards by to much a bit perhaps, but I'm not going to start messing around with the voltages to much. so I think this PSU might be the right one for me
