I recently just built a new rig, my temps on my i7 4790k seem sort of high. Currently i'm getting around 40c idle sometimes 42 and when playing a game like CS:GO i get 60c are these normal with a hyper 212 evo? The applied thermal paste i used was mx4 if that helps. My cpu also is NOT overclocked, it's stocked atm @ 4ghz. On another note i live in california where it gets pretty hot, it's normally 100 degrees outside and can get pretty warm in the room, even now when the room feels cool i'm getting these temps, any clue? If more info is needed i'll reply back as needed, thanks!

This is third time I have read a thread this week that involves the i7-4790K overheating.

From what I know the i7-4790K is designed to be much cooler than the previous i7. But many users have experienced temperature problems. My friend uses stock cooler and achieves 60°C when gaming. So the temperature you have is normal, but with an aftermarket cooler it should at least be 50°C.

What's your PC case?

My current case is a Phanteks Enthoo Luxe

The case has best air cooling according to reviews. So there shouldn't be a problem. Maybe you may have not applied the thermal paste properly or the CPU cooler isn't placed properly too??

Well, i have 5 fans in total for the case, front is intake, front top 2 are intakes (i don't know if that would cause any issues, since people say you want all 3 to be out takes) and the last on top along with the back of the pc are both out takes. The cpu mount should be on fine, i set everything in the middle as shown in the instructions and in videos. The method i used for the paste was a dot in the center, and i placed the cooler on top of it letting the pressure smooth the paste out and i installed it from there.

Then I guess everything will be fine. When you played CS:GO, was there any other applications open?

If so then that may cause the temperature problem.

If not then I really don't know the issue other then the i7-4790K overheats pretty high an Intel was wrong about it should be less hot. ;)

All i have running besides CS:GO is chrome, which was playing a 1080p video at the time, even without a video playing it hits these temps :( kind of scared since if i plan on overclocking in the future i may have some issues, i know these temps won't be a huge issue as for now, but they still worry me... i highly doubt re-applying the paste will do anything since i'm sure i did it correctly. I'm also running an ASUS Maximus VII motherboard if that helps any.
