LS,
My neighbour gave me 3 (half) old systems, is one or a combination of the parts worth assembly and/or upgrading?

Asus p5s800-vm (no cpu, 2x256mb kvr333 pc2700)
asrock-p4i65g (p4 1,8ghz)
msi- ms-6788 i865/pe/g/i848p (working system, by times inresponsive/unstable):
p4 prescott 478 3,2Ghz / 2x512mb kvr400 pc3200, Asus ati radeon HD 3600 series 512mb RV635 on a 400watt power supply.

seagate barracude 7200.11 500gb sata
maxtor 40gb ata
samsung 60gb ata
2x LG super multi dvd rewriter ( 1x ata and 1x sata)
1x LG DVD-ROM ata
a pile of fans, cpu coolers(evercool, spire), cables etc.

To be more specific: Which is the best of this three motherboards and Is it worth buying the needed parts to make it work? Is a 775 cpu generally faster than a 478? I would prefer to make the asus mobo work with a series 7 nvidia. I'm not a big fan of the graphic card provided or ati in general.

Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention these are all AGP 8x systems

It might be very hard or impossible to find a graphics card for agp 8x, everything has been made for the pci-e interface for a long time now. There "might" be a odd card made for agp, but I wouldn't get my hopes up espcially for anything high end. They are so old that spending money on them is propably a waste, you would have to find used parts mostly anyway. Any working systems should still be good enough for web surfing and such, or playing some old games.

Thanks, you kinda confirmed my expectations. On auction sites there are several bargains to be made but spending money on a 10 year old system seems like a waste, the performance gain is minimal compared to the money spent. I managed to build 2 working systems (XP and 7) without any money spent. It was a gift and now it's fun to play some old multiplayer games with the kids. A nice gift, nothing more :)
