Windows 8 keeps reading non-primary HDD

hi, I've recently installed Windows 8 on to my SSD however I have a strange issue. Whenever I try to install any programme to C: (the SSD) Windows insists on reading drive F:, which is a 3TB HDD which can take over 3 minutes, before it starts to install to C:.

I can see it reading F: using the Drive's meter gadget and when I unplug F: it doesn't have the issue and installs immediately.

I initially had indexing disabled, so I enabled it and waited until it was complete, but still have the same issue. Any ideas?

Thanks

I used to have a similar issue (kind of)

Certain operations on my C would cause windows to look at my K drive as well, which resulted in a delay

I found it was down to the fact my second drive was set to turn off after a period of inactivity. Once I set the advanced power settings so the second drive never turned off, my problem went away

I just changed the global setting for hard drives in advanced power management to never
