Hey guys,

A few days ago something happened which, to me was like, **!@*# what is happening?!
I have 2 monitors connected to my GTX770, one on the DVI-I with an adapter to VGA for my older screen. And one connected with the HDMI port. Everything has been working fine for the past half year but now suddenly my main screen, the one on the HDMI port, said: I'm going black (and never going back).

When I turn the screen off and on again, it shows image for a few miliseconds before going black again. When I unplug the cable it starts saying that there's no signal input. So to me this sounds like, hello I'm a screen getting a black signal. So after disconnecting my screen, deleting the driver and reinstalling the newest, it worked again (hooray).

But, again, today... The screen is black again. Now I think I can fix it again by reinstalling the driver. But that would not solve the problem as this seems to be a re-occurring issue.

So, my guess is, somewhere my PC downloaded the latest nvidia driver which has a bug, but could anything else other than that be the issue?

Thank you for you attention and have a nice day.

DVI performs better or very high resolution and high refresh rates. It is also cheaper, you don't need audio from HDMI I guess so.. and it is more firm, hdmi can be easily plugged out etc..

From your last post "The monitor never turns black while using the computer. It only seems to happen whenever it has been turned off." Did I read it wrong or ??? Your monitor is on when you turn your computer on and it works normally, and when you shut your computer down it goes black ? what's wrong there xd

Probably your signal gets lost if you keep turning your monitor off and on. Why do you turn you monitor off anyways? You don't have to power it off...never. It will just go to sleep when you shut down your pc and will wake up and you turn your...

Thank you for your reply Proofy :)

The monitor never turns black while using the computer. It only seems to happen whenever it has been turned off.
So I rolled the graphics driver back a few versions, but it happened again today. Updated to the newest version and the monitor works again. But I know it will just happen again tomorrow.

I tried switching cables, it did not work.
Just out of curiosity, why is DVI better than HDMI with gaming?

Hehe I think you either read it wrong, or I'm incredibly bad in explaining myself, so let me try again.

I start my computer, both screens seem to work until Windows has logged into the desktop, then suddenly the HDMI monitor, which is my main, quits. Then I tried rolling back drivers, which works for that session. But then, when I turn off my computer and start again for example the next day, the same thing happens again, the second monitor will just stay black within windows. All I can do is just keep switching drivers... ( I'm not turning off my screens btw, as you thought in your last post :) )
And it does get a signal from my card, when I unplug the monitor it says: no signal.

I'm about to format and reinstall my whole computer, so if you have another thought before I will reinstall everything in the hope that will work... let me know.

Just one more explanation from you before you do so. Are both of the monitors acting the same or just the one (your main) that was connected with HDMI cable? Because if the problem is in hardware I'd first try:

1) replacing the cable (hdmi in this case with vga, use vga cable with my second monitor and connect my main monitor which I would use for gaming with DVI cable) maybe it's a cable problem
2) trying your "bad" monitor with some other PC, maybe the problem is with monitor itself
3) try to reinstall your PC OS and drivers (recommend Windows 8.1 PRO x64)
4) problem is in graphic card

It's just my main acting up with the HDMI cable.
1. ) I've tried one other HDMI cable and it did the same. (so most likely not a cable issue)
2. ) I've connected my monitor to another pc, no issues. (so most likely not a monitor issue)
3. ) Tried with all different kind of drivers, also Windows 7 x64 drivers (i'm not on W8)
4. ) How can I test this? Is there some utility that can check for damage? I do not have spare parts lying around to just build it in another computer and see if it acts the same unfortunately.

Thank you for your responses so far :)

Did you use the same HDMI when connecting your monitor to another PC... if you did then maybe it could be the HDMI port from the graphics cards.. Well it is still on warranty so you can give it back to the store where you bought it and explain them the problem and tell them the same thing what you told me. That you tried connecting the same monitor with the same HDMI cable and that it worked without any issues. They must take the card then and see what is wrong with it or RMA it right away... You can still trying downloading Windows 8.1 PRO x64 copy windows and try with it but I'm guessing that the problem is with graphic card not the windows nor the drivers
