Okay, so this one is a little tricky. One day I had a sudden issue where my computer was acting as if the control key was being held down. Naturally I did the obvious things and disabled sticky keys, scanned for viruses, switch keyboards(usb & ps2), updated drivers (difficult without being able to type :), checked the BiOS to make sure everything was being recognized. When I re-booted it hung at boot menu as if I was holding control, before the OS loaded, so I knew it wasn't a problem with Windows. I also tried some other half-baked fixes I discovered online such as pressing the control key five times or pressing both left and right control keys at the same time, nothing worked. After a lot of browsing on my other computer I came across someone who seemed to have at least diagnose the problem. On my computer if you pull up the on-screen keyboard, you will see that the control key is constantly highlighted as if it was being held down. If I unplug my USB mouse, it solves the issue. Plug it back in, and the control key go right down again. oddly enough if I boot with the mouse unplugged, things work fine and if I plug it in, things work normally. Oddly, the exact action that causes the computer to act this way, is using the scroll wheel. If I don't boot with the mouse in question and switch to it without using the scroll wheel I can, and have, used the computer for an extended amount of time. If I move the scroll wheel one little notch though... Switching to a different mouse didn't solve the problem at first, but if I boot up with a different USB mouse things work fine. So I have narrowed things down a lot but have not managed to solve the problem. The mouse in question is the "Sharkoon Drakonia"

Problem solved! In my case, for some reason the first update didn't take so I went back to their website, re-downloaded their configurator/driver software. Uninstalled the driver, re-installed, and made sure to leave all the settings as default. It's funny, I spent like two whole days trying to solve that program and only 10 minuets after making that last post, I get a solution! Sorry if I wasted anyone's time!
