So here is what my problem is, I have multiple clients and get new clients here and there. I right now have a program called "Advanced IP Scanner" that will scan an ip address range and list anything with an active IP and its DNS name. But I would like some type of program that will scan a network and return more info than the IP and DNS name. I would like some program that will also list the hardware of the workstations, such as CPU, ram, HD size, and OS. It would also be nice if it could tell me the make and model of the workstation, the serial number, and the user who is logged in. Right now I have to gather all the info on the workstations manually, and to have a program list this all for me would be a huge time saver. I would like something that is freeware, or if I have to pay something with a trial period would be nice.

I do this so I know exactly what is on that clients network, I keep spread sheets of all workstations/equipment/printers on the network, and it will allow me to recommend which workstations should be upgraded/replaced.

IF you had an SNMP client on the devices this would be possible. Windows isn't strong with SNMP. From a Windows domain, you can get a lot of that information via PowerShell. BUT you would need login credentials for each device. SNMP is probably your best bet. For example SNMP Info

I was kind of hoping for something with more info. Something that would scan the whole network.

You don't say if a paid implementation is acceptable... Here is an article on low cost network discovery tools. The OpenAudit looks interesting....
