Hello peoples, so I just got rid of my QX6700 and am going to upgrade to a AM3 platform, namely the FX-8320. I'm most likely not be keeping the stock cooler and am planning to get a Raijintek Themis 120mm Tower cooler... Any recommendations on the cooler?

Other options -
Cooler Master Hyper 103
Cooler Master Hyper TX3
Zalman CNPS5X
Raijintek Aidos

Question NÂș2!

Any overclock that is granted to try on it once I get it? How are the temps on this chip? New to AM3 and it's processors and I wanted some personal help, not some article wrote on the internet.

Future specs -

AMD FX 8320 3.5GHz 16MB BOX SKAM3+
Msi GeForce GTX 750 Ti Gaming 2048MB GDDR5 (Already own it)
Msi 970 GAMING AMD970 SKAM3+
Kingston DDR3 HyperX FURY Red 8GB 1866MHz Cas10
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 64MB SATAIII (6GB/s) - EZEX
Corsair VS-650W 12cm
Raijintek Themis Heatpipe CPU Cooler - 120mm (Will accept suggestions)

Thanks!

I found this guide to be very helpful with overclocking.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1348623/amd-bulldozer-and-pi...

This will technically work on any Motherboard so don't worry.

When it comes to cooling go for something that works not Raijintek, tried it. Does not work well at all. Noctua got great ones. Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo best bang for the buck and some slight overclock with it. Noctua nh-d14/15 for air and extremly good overclock. Or watercooling like H100i and so on.

Personally I think noctua nh-d14 would be the choice for you because they dropped in price last I saw. Hope this helped you :)

I would get a cooler master hyper 212 or a noctua cooler the ones you have there wont be very good for a decent overclock in fact they are not that much better than the stock cooler.

And you will want a motherboard with an 990X or 990FX chipset to overclock, you will be lucky if that mobo will handle the 8320 at all never mind with an overclock i would recommend the ASUS M5A99X mobo.

I can't afford the Noctua coolers, not even the most basic one, that is why I specified which coolers are within my reach

I saw people getting 4.9Ghz on that board stable on an FX-8350.

Those coolers just arent very good for overclocking the cooler master hyper 212 is good if you cant afford a noctua cooler. But idk maybe with a very good cooler you could get it to 4.9ghz but i doubt it the 970 chipset is getting pretty old and overclocking a fx 8320 on that mobo just isent recommended. Look at this.

Cooler Master 212 EVO, extremly better then stock and you will get a good overclock out of it. Again not as good as Water Cooling or high end air cooling. But still good buy. Go for it :)

This is the video I saw, I don't know, they made tests about the 970 vs 990FX and there was no difference except at 4.9Ghz I believe.

I'm not saying your wrong, I just don't know you know?

Those coolers you posted , shouldn't even be used in mild overclocking.
