I've got the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB FTW with EVGA ACX compatible with my pci e x16, as in first generation on a dell studio xps 8000?I've heard that the gpu is compatible with the pciex16 2.0 but I think that my mobo has the first gen Pciex16 slot. Will the gpu still work?

Best solution
From what I found, if you had this pc ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/... with either the 1st gen i5 or i7, or you can instasll the cpu z to confirm that. http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
Because it has the P55 chipset, which has the pciex16 ( version 2) http://ark.intel.com/products/42690/Intel-BD82P55-PCH so the gtx750 ti will be compatible, pcie3.0 is backward compatible to the pcie2.0, but the xps 8000 has the 350w PSU, it may or may not power the gtx750ti. So you did get the gtx750ti, and just install it if the PC does not boot up, and you may need the new PSU, like CORSAIR CX series CX500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... even it is not the best one but it will be good enough for your need. If you want the better one, like XFX, seasonic, or antec brand PSU.

whew! thx again. I can't buy another system if it doesn't work so I have my fingers crossed. Waiting to get the pc and the gpu in the mail on Friday.patrickthecajun,
looking forward to your results. i'm in nearly the exact same boat. last night, installed in my XPS 8000:
PSU: corsair cx500M
new case fan
EVGA GeForce GTX750Ti FTW w/ EVGA ACX cooling.
at first, it seemed to work and booted up fine. of course, needed to install the display drivers. and this is where the stuff hit the fan. the GeForce Experience (or whatever its called) took over 30 minutes to process...and it was 11.30pm by then. online talks about this program taking extensive time to install. i neglected to turn off my AntiVirus (don't do that) and didn't delete the old Nvidia display drivers (recommended, but supposedly the driver install program does it).
Figured overnight would do the trick, but i woke up to my dell xps 8000 beeping six times. over and over. non-functional at this point. when i get home, i'll try re-seating the video card and maybe trying a different PCI connector for the video card's secondary power point.
love to hear your results and if you get everything done on first pass. avoid my mistakes and good luck!

Update 6.57pm PST 9/5/2014
got home and, per advice on some of these articles and forums, i disconnected everything (all USBs and unnecessary connections) and turned on the PC...VIOLA' it booted up. it went through some safe mode boot ups--cycled 2x--but after 15 minutes or so, got in and it all works well. now time to try it out, but dunno what happened <shrug>.
Good luck with your build/upgrade as well!
