Hi, I am looking to upgrade my pc and are looking for some opinions or suggestions. I had a 900$ Canadian budget but was able to make it to 1000$ Canadian. I currently have some components already so they don't need to be subtracted from the budget. I have a mouse, keyboard, monitor, hard drive 750GB, an optical drive and a Thermaltake TR2 600w PSU. For my AMD build I included a better PSU for overclocking purposes. I have no merchant or brand loyalties. The only thing is that going over my 1000$ budget is out of question that's the only condition I have. That doesn't include tax. I am mostly looking to game but I am also considering light work which is why I am leaning towards AMD. My monitor will be dual in the future but no more than 1080p each. I also have an OS.

Thanks for any help.

I personally think the Intel build is better.

I looked at AMDs new cpus and they are only under clocked 8350s or 8320s and the reviews don't say that they are any better the only good thing is that the prices of other AMD cpus were brought down :)

I usually use $850 as a dividing line between an AMD build (< $850) and an Intel (> $850) build. For whatever reason, haven't been asked to do an AMD build in going on 3 years.

If your main intention is gaming, the i5 build will out-perform the AMD build.
