Hey guys,

The three memory kits are : : Ripjaws 4 F4-2133C15Q-32GRR, Ripjaws 4 F4-2400C15Q-32GRR and Ripjaws 4 F4-2666C15Q-32GRR

I'm making my new build and I need some advice about the memory. If I want I can order it tomorrow but there is only available the 2133 MHz DDR4 kit from the place I'm going to buy the parts. If I want the faster memories I'm need to wait few days. I'm not sure if I should wait or just buy the things with the 2133 MHz or to wait for the 2400 MHz or the 2666 MHz memory. I'm going to overclock the memory us much us I can so I don't need faster than the 2600 MHz kit (higher latency for the next kit and no overclocking for the 3K kit or bad overcloking). Also the CPU and the video card will be heavely overclocked.

Now I got some of the parts from my last build. I bought a new power supply and the rest I'm going to buy together. Thu build is going to be:

CPU: i7 5960x

MB: ASUS X99-DELUXE LGA2011-V3

GPU: Asus nVidia GeForce GTX660, 2048MB, GDDR5, 192bit, DVI, HDMI, PCI-E (from the last build)

Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

Case: Cosmos II (from the previous build)

PS: CORSAIR RM 1000W RM1000 80 PLUS Gold Modular (bought it Yesterday)

Storage: 2 SSDs in RAID 0 and a lot of HDDs for main storage. Bought them already (most from the previous build and few are new).

RAM: G.SKILLs: Ripjaws 4 4x8 DDR4 but which model ? In 1-2 years I plan to add one more 32GB kit.

The machine is going to be used for video editing in 1080p, 1440p and 4K (3D and visual effects won't be used) and for daily use. No games will be played on it. Will the higher memory speed benefit me enough in the video editing and rendering for me to give the extra money and wait few more days or I should order the system with the 2133 MHz kit ?

Kind regards,
Hyi4o

Will it always be at the back of your head that you should have got the faster memory? If so, then get it. It is also only a couple of days wait so nothing extreme. I know how the upgrade bug will hit you hard and you want it NOW, but you are already spending this much on a machine, might as well get what you want.
Are you using CUDA on that 660 ?

I would expect CUDA and a GFX card update to have a bigger effect than DDR4 memory speeds.

The PSU is way way oversized and many units in the RM series have the cheap chinese capacitors.

I have not vetted the DDR4 memory choices as I generally stay away from the 1st stepping of new hardware. I would try and find out what modules are used in each of the choices as whether it was Hynix or 'something" else would factor into that decision.

There's not a huge difference in price (according to PCPartpicker) between each of the steps, but if you're going to be OCing everything, I'd go with the 2400. Without more testing data for the DDR4 regarding DRAM speed affects on CPU overclocking, I would guess that the 2400 would be the happy medium, although overall performance increase over 2133 is likely to only be incremental.

Hey guys,

Thank you a lot for your replays!

JackNaylorPE - No, but thank you a lot for the advice! I will do it for sure! I will use the CUDA thing. It sounds great.
About the PSU, I also think it is a bit overkill but it was on sale for a good price thats why I bought it. It was on the same price with all ~750-850W gold power supply from this class. Its not going to waste me electricity. I saw the benchmarks and even when my system is in idle the power supply will convert ~90% of the electricity which is great. For a smaller system it will be utilising ~80% of the electricity.

kira70591 - Yes, the difference is not big. I will wait few days. A few % in the rendering will be a good plus.

volcanoscout - I hope till the 2400 and the 2666 are available in my country there will be some benchmarks and overclocking on the modules so we can see how the performance is increasing and also how good is going to be the overcloking.

Kind regards,

Sounds great! Yeah, if you use your computer for a living then time is money. Even a few percent (without a distinct price increase) can make a large difference over the life of the system.

Good luck with everything!
