Hey there,

I currently have an I2500k processor, 8gb ram, Asrock P67 EXTREME4 GEN3 mobo, Corsair Enthusiast TX750M power supply and I currently have 2x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 560 Ti OC in SLI.

I'm looking to upgrade. Possibly to a Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Toxic 3GB.

Do you think I should go for it now or go for another card in this price range? Or should I wait a month or so?

Thanks in advance

The 280x is honestly the best in its price range, You could opt for the 770, but i wouldn't since the 280 beats it out overall.

I wouldn't wait for the new card since your cpu is likely going to max out with that generation and start seeing bottlenecks without huge overclocks!

Good luck :)

That's not even a performance upgrade, and you would lose your Nvidia goodies (PhysX, Adaptive VSync, etc.) in the process.

With the GTX 970 due out on September 19th, your best option is to hold off.

So a pair of overclocked GTX 560 Ti's is going to be roughly equivalent to a GTX 590. Even the top of the line 7970 Lightning card (the equivalent of a 280x) can't beat that. I really hope you didn't go and trade in your 560 Ti's for a 280x!

  • Wow thanks for the advice. I didn't trade or buy anything yet.
My problem with sli is that I generally find it more unstable than a single card. Also drivers for sli support in new games tend to come out later.
Maybe i'm a little spoiled. I think i'll wait a few months and get another card with freesync and such.
