How to switch on Toshiba TV without remote

Can't switch on my Toshiba TV from stand-by mode as the touch sensitive buttons on the front bottom right of the TV don't work. I have a universal remote though this can only be programmed to the TV from its on setting.

You need to get a universal remote that has a built in database of codes. That way you don't need the TV on. It may also possible to get a replacement remote for the TV. Google the model number of the TV + replacement remote or the remote part number if you have it.
