Call of duty gameplay questions

So I would assume there are a lot of gamers around here. I am not a huge gamer. Back in my student days I use to play a lot of Unreal tournament and recently I built a pretty powerful computer so I did a bit of research and people have recommended Backlight retribution as a more modern FPS game.

Make fun of me if you will, but i have never played call of duty. Now I enjoyed blacklight a lot and everyone keeps comparing both.
I want to give call of duty a go, but i am wondering about the gameplay.

What I like is the tournament style shooting. I don't care about stories and endless cut scenes. Just throw me on a map and let's start the shooting. Obviously online multiplayer is what I am looking for. Team deathmatch, deathmatch, capture the flag, kill confirm etc....

There is so many Call of duty titles, I don't even know where to start. Which one do you guys recommend based on something similar to unreal or blacklight?

Cheers!

The Call of duty's after black ops 2 are bad imo, best cod? Modern warfare 2, it would be mw 1 but it's too heavily hacked, mw2 is still safe, it'sfull of what made the title so great, my personal one is that and closely behind is black ops zombies with the rezurrection map pack, both are great, black ops multiplayer isn't good but zombies, omggg

when you say it's been hacked... what do you mean by that? Like people cheat or people simply install a pirated version?

I don't support the ones that require a 3ed party to install or play like origen or steam modreen warfare and world at war are real pc games with out the 3ed party involvement or internet connection required fto activate them

thers a lot of stuff for the world at war game

20 bucks and all the maps and mods no steam or origin way past getting your moneys worth

also world at war has Linux client for your own server [privet]

Why wouldn't you support the steam stuff? Is it because of the money?

Can't I download (buy) CoD elsewhere anyway?

''Can't I download (buy) CoD elsewhere anyway?''

you own nothing all you got is the right to play as they see fit with the retail disk I don't need them its mine to play as I see fit with out them

also think what in the steam uela the term ''without limitations '' can mean

Sony's PlayStation Network and Xbox Live and Valve's PC gaming service Steam boast tens of millions of subscribers

http://www.nbcnews.com/tech/video-games/nsas-virtual-waste-time-spying-world-warcraft-harder-you-think-f2D11724106

just the idea that they allow this to start with with out your approval

and the take origin eula where the first thing they got to state is that its not spyware ?? really?? you got to convince me of that first ?? ya, I agree [not]

Fair enough, I never actually used steam. I downloaded two games since i got my computer and it's Blacklight and Bannished. Steam looked more complicated than anything else so I just downloaded each game on their website. No big deal. I probably will do the same with CoD, but if I can't it's not a big deal. It's a few dollars....

well if that's whats on your hard drive is worth then do it I showed you the game retail box that's yours to play with out them involved you own and hold the game in your hand and not beg or hope they will allow you to plat or drop support on you or force there mandatory content on you weather you like it or not
if you don't mind your computer to be a open book and give them control to make changes to it as they want that's your thing and good luck ..

Do you really think steam will use your computer as an open book and screw with it? I am asking very seriously. I highly doubt they would dare to do that even if they could. But at this point when you install something on your computer it comes down to trust. Even a game installed from a legally purchased cd is still at risk.

offer you games cheap and gather your info to sell to make up that ?? naaa

and to start with I don't give them a chance to do me that way

then why is the games not on a retail disk with out them required ? and why do they require access as they do???

as for me I would order the one from newegg and have the game on the disk wile you can cause its yours to load play when ever you want that's worth $100 to me just for that its yours

you hold the full game hard copy

MW3 has its moments, and I agree with legend, COD4 (MW1) is great... IF you can avoid hackers. Occasionally you'll come across a server that never has a single hacker, but has superjump... I would love to find a server that never had a SINGLE hacker, and was just a constant (non-modded) tdm on all maps. (I can dream) But your best bet is to go with mw2 or mw3. It depends on your taste, but you might like Black ops 2. If I had to choose between the three, I'd probably go with mw3, it has a few hackers, but it hasn't been out as long as mw2, so it's a LOT less.
