Feel free to skip to the question at the end... for some reason I feel the need to give background!

My last laptop died recently (motherboard failure - HP heat problem) about four days before I was due to leave town on work. My rather frantic shopping for a machine that was inexpensive yet still had a 17" screen (I won't give it up now that I'm used to it) led me to the Acer. It's a touch down on power from my last machine, but in my brief research Acer seemed like they had a better record for longevity, and I really don't need a lot of processor. The processor hasn't been a problem, though I did decide to upgrade the memory - found an 8gb module on eBay, so I'm at 12 which seems to be plenty for my uses. I've got a bad habit of collecting browser pages...

Anyway, on to my actual question: I wouldn't mind more hard drive space, and the logical thing to do would be to go buy a larger drive when I need it, but I can't help but think that I've got this 640gb drive from my old machine that I could press into duty as a media drive. The trouble is, while there is a bay for it, I don't see anywhere to plug it in. My last laptop had an open plug that I never used, but I'm not seeing one here. It is possible that I would need to disassemble further, but I was hoping to know whether it existed or not before I did more than pull the back panel off. I know that you can install one in place of your optical drive, but I'd prefer to keep that if I can. If there is literally no provision for it on the motherboard, I suppose I could use the external drive adapter I have and internally wire it to the USB system, but that would be a post warranty operation!

So, does anyone know if you can add a second hdd to this thing without giving up the optical drive?
