I am currently building a computer and am deciding between multiple graphics cards. They are all 290x's and I was wondering which one to get to recieve the most stable performance. I will not be doing any overclocking and I am not worried about the extra fps some of the cards come with as I am gaming on a single 1080p monitor (I will get good fps with any of them, since anything can push a 1080p monitor). I heard of all the black screen errors and am a little worried to go with a 290x now, I just want to know which card will the most stable without overclocking and run fairly cool.

SYSTEM SPECS

amd fx-8350
asus sabertooth 990fx r.2
16gb (2x8) g.skill sniper ram 1866
corsair hx750w psu

Like what others have suggested, the R9 290x Sapphire Tri-x OC card is awesome. I actually bought that card 1-2 months ago and it runs without a hitch!

When you do buy a R9 290x, if you want to make sure you have less of a chance of getting black screens and issues, I suggest finding one with Hynix memory instead of the Elpida memory as more users with Elpida has experienced more black screens than users with the Hynix memories. I have the Hynix memory and I bought my card used. You can always shoot the retailers an email and ask them what kind of memory brand does the R9 290x have for that specific 3rd party card that they have in stock though I don't know what are the chances that they will actually answer that question fully for...

that is a beast and the best air cooled one

Like he said, the only real rule to buying an R9 290 or R9 290x is don't buy a reference one. Make sure it has a better cooler on it of some kind made by some one other than AMD.

I would say get Sapphire. For AMD cards, Sapphire seems to always be the best regardless of which model it is. The Vapor-x and Tri-X are popular models, but anything Sapphire will do really.

Sapphire and MSI are great ones though since they really do the cooling job well compared to other third party aftercoolers like ASUS and Gigabyte

If the prices aren't too much of a difference between Sapphire and MSI, go for MSI, only because they have 1 more year of warranty just in case and MSI Lightning is very good though the Tri-X OC is close to that.

Agree, Sapphire is the brand for AMD imo.

I would say its hard to find a card which comes close to the Sapphire 290X Vapor-X (Tri-X) OC.
