After I had used system restore to undo some unwanted changes to my computer, I realized that I had left my flash drive connected as my system was being restored. When I looked at the last file I was viewing on the flash drive, I discovered it was over-written with another file on the flash drive with a different name. I had done nothing with the prompts on notepad classic before the modifications were made automatically. Is there any way to recover the original files before they were over-written?

System Restore doesn't touch external drives at all, so I think whatever happened to that file was just a coincidence.
Try file recovery software, although it has to be said that important files should be backed up on different media.
