As the title says, I'm buying tomorrow the MSI GTX 760 OC 2gb GDDR5 frozr

Questions:

-Is it secure to use the OC mode of this Gpu with my system?
Specs:
Mother Gigabyte B75 D3V
Processor Intel i5 3470 3.2ghz>3.6ghz (x4)
MSI GTX 760 OC twin frozr 2gb GDDR5
8GB RAM DDR3
PSU: Cooler Master GX650W 80Plus Bronze

I'm scared that if I use the Overclocked mode of the MSI software the durability or the correct working status of my card drops down, like if the card would give me 1 year of gameplay instead of 5 if I overclock it, so that's my question, how much secure is to use the OC mode? for the Gpu and for the rest of my pc

-I read a comment at youtube that they said you have to "broke in" this type of Gpu's (GTX's) using them on low settings then med then ultra, is that true? or how does it works?

-Is it a little close to what the monster of gtx 770 can do? Is it okay to play ultra or max for most of the games or how?

The comment that you read is untrue and the OC mode would not decrease the life of your card at all. All it does is maximize the usage of the available amount of thermal headroom (meaning if it can run at a higher speed and it's cool enough to do so then it will). Playing games on any setting whether ultra or high will not damage your GPU. That's what its made for.

There is such a thing as breaking in thermal paste on prime95 for a few hours but that has nothing to do with this. And I wouldn't say an OC'd 760 could top a 770 but it shouldn't be too terribly far off.

But just to reinforce my point, using the auto-overclocking utility or even manually overclocking your GPU would not decrease its lifespan significantly at all. Modern cards are created to run around 100C maximum until they start hitting major problems but by then they would auto shut down. Manual overclocking is very safe these days as long as you know what you're doing. The auto overclocking tools are harmless and are for people who like to flick it on and forget about it. Hope this eases your worries :)

ALTHOUGH, that PSU you have is not very good. It's a tier 4 unit and that is not good at all. Did you just purchase that unit recently or have you had it a while? I would return it and buy another one if possible.

PSU tier list, just look for yourself.

Overclocking with a set clock rate, as in using an overclock mode, or overclock of no more than 40MHz just to be safe, will not damage your card in any way. The life span ALWAYS decreases when overclocking or overvolting, but if you do it right, the decrease will be only by a day or a week or so. I say, install MSI Kombustor, and run it at stock to test the card for stability or errors/artifacts. Then, overclock by adding 10MHz at a time, repeatedly running the test. Once you see any white dots, black squares, blank pixels, or anything that looks like it shouldn't be there in the test, immediately stop it, drawing back the clock rates by 40MHz, just for the sake of safety. I say a good working, long-lasting card is far better than a slightly damaged, short-lived card. As for "breaking in" no. This is just a myth. The GPU comes ready to play eight out of the box. When I first got mine, I played Crysis 3 at max settings for several hours. I say, if you find everything to work at above 40 FPS at max settings without overclocking, then there is never any need to, because the performance boost is only noticeable in benchmarks and frame rate indicators. Not like you're going to overclock by 20 MHz and say "WOO! I just went from 56 FPS in Crysis to 57.2 FPS!!! YEAHHH!!" I say play it safe and don't do anything you're not comfortable doing.

Hope I helped!
