I just popped in my new Samsung 850, formatted to Windows 8.1, and set my drive to AHCI, ran the OS and performance optimization in Samsung Magician, and then ran the benchmark. I'm getting seq read speeds of 142 (out of 550) and seq write of 135 (out of 520). Anyone know what the problem could likely be? I'm overprovisioning 20%.

Is your computer custom or prebuilt? If its a custom build, what's the model of your motherboard?

Do you know what version of SATA your motherboard has?

Turns out I had it plugged into a SATA 2 slot. Unfortunately my mobo's SATA 3 is generation uno thus it's only Marvell, so it's not fast enough to take full speeds of my drive. Rapid Mode helps the bottleneck but I'll have to wait until a mobo upgrade to take full speed benefit of this SSD.

Thanks guys

Glad to be of help :) . Even at those speeds you should still see a noticeable difference in speed.

Speeds appear to be at 85% of what they should be. Everything is still lightning fast and I don't regret the upgrade. Thanks.
