Hi all

I had a laptop in with a bunch of other stuff that wasn't powering up (Toshiba p200).
I've narrowed it down to a problem with the dedicated graphics, a radeon hd2600 board. If I remove the board I get the power status LED coming on (no display of course), but of I reinsert the GPU I get NO power/status LEDs at all.

Before I start either breaking it for parts or sourcing a new graphics board for the machine, is there anything else I might want to try to resurrect the existing hardware? Maybe something I missed?

I can find a replacement GPU for about £20 so I might give that a whirl?
Use it as my Linux machine if I can get it going again

If you feel like taking a 60/40 chance for 20 pounds :) . Are you sure you that the GPU you have found will fit?

Same model ect. A dead GPU would prevent power-on wouldn't it? As I said, if I pull the GPU and power it on, I get status lights, fans etc

Well you're probably right about it being the GPU but none of us can say for sure so the chance/choice is yours to take. I would personally do it if the laptop is working fine otherwise and is not too old.

If it is a good laptop I would change it, if it's old one and not so fast I wouldn't waste money on it.. your choice
