About a day ago I received an old original Xbox from a friend who claims the system was working before giving it to me, but when I plugged everything in and turned it on I got a flashing red and green light, and nothing showed up on my display. The system also reboots itself 2-3 times before this happens.

I've been looking into and trying to figure out what the issue is for hours and I'm baffled. The DVD drive opens and works just fine despite the lights and the hard drive isn't making any weird noises either. I took all of the components out of the system including the motherboard in an attempt to clean everything and see if I could spot any damaged soldering, what I found was a loose screw under the motherboard which I thought was causing the problem, it wasn't. Next I switched out some of the cables with spares I have laying around and its still doing it. What I did discover was that I could get the system to switch to the orange and green flashing error if I leave one of the cables unplugged but then after a couples seconds it switches back to the red and green light. As far as I can tell nothing is outwardly wrong with the system and the worst thing that could have happened to it is that it may have been bumped around before being delivered but I couldn't find anything missing or loose to support that theory.

By the way this Xbox has not been modded.

What should I do? Is there a way to tell what part is causing the problem?

The FRAG is a sign something has died in the system, probably the HDD or DVD drive. If you need to replace the HDD that can be a pain if you don't know what to do, since the console ties itself to the drive and will fail to boot if it isn't read properly. I have not done any of this myself, so I cannot provide more information, just what I remember from when I had a friend mod my system.
