First, the build:

Asus Z97 Sabertooth Mark 2
Intel i7 4790K
16gb Corsair Vengeance @ 1600 MHz
Corsair Hx1050 PSU
EVGA GTX 780ti Superclocked
Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme

Now, the issue:

This board has two USB 3.0 controller drivers - Intel and Asmedia. When everything is running with both drivers enabled, AI suite shows the boards' controller at anywhere from 37c to 50c while every other component is sitting at around 25 -30c. When I disable the Asmedia controller in the BiOS it stays at consistent temps with the PCI-e port that the video card is plugged into ( very close to each other ). @ 29 - 35c depending on load.

So the question is

A: is this normal?

And

B: is ithere any harm in leaving the ASmedia controller disabled?

Solution
Well, half your USB3 ports won't work. Other than that, there's no harm.

50℃ isn't particularly bad. It's likely that the temp sensor just happens to be near that chip.

I have nearly an identical setup & have the same issue with the usb 3.0 chipset. asus sabretooth mark 1, I7 4790, 16gb 2133mhz corsair dominator, ASUS strix gtx970 & 480gb ssd everything watercooled. Through some research I have found that usb 3.0 typically runs hot around 50-60 degrees Celsius. Only had the board shut off once when the usb 3.0 temp exceeded 65 degrees but this was due to temp monitoring I had set the value for. Apparently the chipset just seems to run hot but works perfectly fine. The AS media storage can be disabled to get a little lower temps but this makes the 2 teal ports on the back unusable as well as the beige sata3 ports on bottom of board. Also you will lose the usb3.1 ability not that anyone has compatible flash drives.
