should I pick up another 2gb gtx 680? I have an i7-2600, 16gb ram, gtx 680, 1000w ANTEC psu, 512gb mx100, 500 gb WD. Or should I get a 980? I was looking and I can get for roughly 800 a 5820k, asrock x99, 16gb ddr4. I would just use my other hardware and windows 7. Slap on another 200 and I would have a sweet 1080p gaming rig for years to come. or for 500 (rumored), I could have a 2560-4k gaming rig...
I should point out I am in medschool, money is tight, but this is a need LOL. My current rig does everything I need it to by far...

For me 2560-4k gaming is totally meh.. don't like it, consider it as waste of money

Wait for 980, single card is better :)

Probably no need right now if your current rig is doing everything you need it to and money is tight. By the time that rig is out of date there will be newer stuff out and you can upgrade then.

If you're in med school and money is tight, why so you need a new gaming rig? That one seems pretty decent as is! I would probably wait till the gtx 980 come out if you are set on it though

I would set +1 about keeping your proc, RAM ,etc.
Your proc is still decent and can still keep up for games in the next 1-2 years.
You still have OC to boost the performance if you want.
Things you would probably want to upgrade are only the GPU or buying a SSD.

some words about 4k gaming:
Get yourself a complete new rig after 4k gaming on maxed everything became more mainstream, right now it is really expensive.

I would wait also for the next generation GPU :)  your GTX680 is not yet that bad

LOL Money is not that tight. But considering that I do have to take out student loans... *cough over 200,000* lol. Where should I sell my vanilla GTX 680 2GB after I get a 980? And what is a fair price for it? 200-250.00 used? Will my i7-2600 running at 4.3, and PCI-e 2.0 bottleneck a 980? I do love my current rig, it's my first one I built XD. I have learned what I would do differently next time...
