Building a new pc and wondering what i should do with the fans in the system.

Should i hook them up to my motherboard? and is it a program for controlling the fans you would recomend?
Or should i buy PWM fans and a PWM splitter and let the motherboard controll them it self?

BTW: will the PWM thing work with the Asus Maximus Z97 Ranger?

There are four ways to control your fans as I see it.
1/ Directly connected to the PSU = Meaning constant full speed on fans
2/ Install a fan controller, which allows you to control every fan plugged in to the controller.
3/ Use PWM and adjust the PWM/temp for the speed you want at a certatin temperatue. The PWM is based on the system/motherboard temperature
4/ Use 3 pin fan connecters, which allows you to set three different speeds for a fan in the BIOS.

PWM and a dedicated fan controller is the only methods I know of to control your fans 100% manually. In this case a fan controller is probably the best choice if your want 100% control, since you can't turn off the fans completely with PWM.

Eidt: You can't control your PWM fans 100%...

It depends on the motherboard you are using, which program you should use. Gigabyte for example has a utility tool for fan profiles called Easy Tuner 6.0, which works great. Other softwares I've tried did not work for my fan settings. Some have luck with Speed Fan. I think the official software for Asus is "Asus Fan Xpert".

I use a PWM splitter for my two fans (one for the intake in the front and one for the exhaustion in the back). When using a PWM splitter you will only be able to set the speed for one fan since the motherboard only reads one fan output. So the two fans in the PWM splitter will only run in the same speed, which is fine by me.

Your motherboard seems to have 3 PWM ports besides the PWM output for the CPU so you wouldn't even need a splitter if you're only going for two fans. So you can control up to three independent fans with PWM on that motherboard.

Im going to have six fans in there. Maybe use a 1-4 splitter. Is there no option for having the motherboard adjusting automatically how fast the fans r spinning by temperature?...

And do u need a PWM fan to control it manualy? Or can u do that with normal fans aswell?

Edit2: Reading more closely you should be able to determine the fan speed with ASUS fan control software even if it's only a 3 pin fan but I'm unsure if you can link the voltage/speed to the temperature using the given software.
