can't get Mac to recognize MyBook

You might need to reformat it. Go into the disk utility and see if it shows up there, then you will need to erase the disk and choose a format type. If you want to use the drive with Windows as well you'll need to format it as Fat32, although you won't be able to load files larger than 4gb without special software, or if you will only use it on mac use OSX extended as it will be much faster.
