I've tried searching for the answer to my question but wasn't able to find the answer I'm looking for.

I'm currently building a house and I'm at the stage of wiring and this weekend I'm going to be wiring all my low voltage runs. I planned on running wired ethernet connections to multiple rooms in the house. There's only a few devices that I need to have a dedicated wired connection. The rest of my devices, phones and tablets mainly, will run off wireless. Are there any wireless range extenders that just plug in to wall ethernet ports?

Any suggestions on how to best wire this up would be much appreciated.

Info:
Home: 3550 sq. ft 2-story home
Current Router: Asus AC-87U

There are some, called access points. For home networks, though, you will not find many. This is because of the low cost of consumer Wifi Routers. So most people just purchase a wifi router and run it in AP mode when they want to add wireless access points to their house.

Yes as abailey said, you can use lower cost routers as access points. Usually cheaper than devices sold specifically as access points. Just be sure that the device you get can be configured as an access point (I think most routers can be set up this way).

If this is new/remodel construction you might want to look at Unifi from ubiquiti. You could install multiple low profile access points with POE power. Manage them with the Ubiquiti software and have reliable roaming. You can also add an outdoor access point for the backyard/pool.
