Very odd issue with Windows 7 Volume Mixer?

Hey Guys,

I've just finished a new build with an ASUS VII Maximus Ranger with an i5 4690K Devil's Canyon core in it, which is working out pretty awesome so far!

But even the smallest issues drive me insane... After installing win and installing all the Asus software for the mobo (AISuite etc...) I'm having this bizarre issue.

The Windows volume mixer has stopped displaying a volume level for anything. Full stop. You know the little green bar that lets you know the level of the audio you're listening to relative to the volume setting? Yeah, that's gone. Completely.

Does anyone have any idea why this has happened or how I can fix it?

My prime suspect is the custom Realtek HD sound manager for this ROG motherboard, but no amount of fiddling seems to restore the little green level meter.

Send halp!

UPDATE: Screenshot here!

As you can see, in the sound tab the green volume meter is totally visible, but for some reason it won't translate over to the main volume mixer in the systray. I still have no idea what is going on here. Any ideas?

Solution
Did some research. Perhaps your animation setting is off.
To check, go to computer -> properties - > advanced System Settings -> performance - > settings
In there, make sure 'Animate controls and elements inside windows' is ticked.

First, the screenshot link directs to a dropbox page stating I don't belong and need to sign in. Might want to check privacy settings.

When I had an audio problem, it was actually amd catalyst control center that was causing problems. I had to install/reinstall/update some drivers in there. You don't happen to be running ccc do you?

Here is a better screen showing that even none of the individual app volumes are showing up. I'm blasting music through MusicBee, but none of the app volumes show. The flash player shows no volume when I'm blasting music on youtube, or even game audio. The volume mixer is just dead for some reason.

I have an Nvidia card so no CCC for me. I've tried all the regular stuff like removing my realtek drivers completely and reinstalling them. It is interesting to note that the problem seemed to continue even when the realtek drivers were completely removed from the machine, which might suggest that they are not the cause of the issue.

I'm lost on this one.

You, sir, are a legend! Thank you so much! Totally wasn't ticked.

My question now, though... is what the hell turned those settings off? I've been using Win7 for a long time now and I've never known any kind of software to disable that stuff, it's always been on for me.

Once again, thanks, mate!

Glad to help =D
Some programs that turn windows 7 aero off such as old games or streaming software may have failed to turn it back on. Not sure what would cause it other than that.

Weird, I don't know what could have turned aero off. I definitely haven't had the issue before and all the apps I have I've been using for some time. Thanks anyway!

It's hardly a big issue to some people but little things like that drive me crazy!
