AMD is not good, Intel is alot better. Here is your build. Do you need a OS?

You should not be using a locked refresh CPU with a Z87 board. An h97 board is what you want.

Also, that monitor is less than 1080p, which is pointless for this build. you REALLY REALLY want a 1080p monitor here.

Also, AMD is not better or worse than intel. They both are their strong suits.

But it is an overclocking motherboard for a non overclocking CPU. He would be better off with an h97 board. These boards are designed for these new CPUs and need no BIOS update. This is the correct way to go.

There is NO reason to get anything besides a 1080p monitor in this day and age. ESPECIALLY for a build like this.

A overclocking CPU is 10 pounds more. Plus a BIOS update is not hard to do. And Z97 are more expensive or H97. He didn't state which monitor he wanted. So I chose a 720p one for him. If he prefers a 1080p then by all means go ahead. But if he doesn't state anything how am I supposed to know what he needs?

He will prefer 1080p. I'm not trying to be rude, but you should only recommend 1080p monitors for builds as high performance as this. They are standard and what people generally think of. buying a NEW monitor that is less than 1080p for gaming on a computer like this is pointless.

1080p is standard for all new builds. It is what to recommend.

Also, yes a 4690k and a z97 board would be appropriate. I am not arguing that. But a z87 board with a locked refresh CPU is not good and that is what you recommend, so that is what I am commenting on.

Your not trying to be rude but you are being rude. But here's the 1080p monitor. If he needs it.

You don't get it. Being compatible is not the problem.

The problem is that the parts are not well suited to each other.

Why buy a motherboard not designed for that CPU that requires a BIOS update, when you can buy a proper board built for that CPU that will work easily with no issues?

@boss

the issue is this:

you are pairing an overclocking motherboard with a non overclockable cpu which doesnt make sense since you cannot use the motherboard how it was meant to be used.

Z series boards should be paired with K series cpus or H series boards with non K series cpus since it makes much more sense and you arent overbuying for features you will never use.

also, _97 boards are going to be a better choice for the new cpus. not only do they have support without bios updates but they include other enhancements as well.

the OP may not know how or want to do a bios update.

Prescribing a board of that caliber would be best had with an unlocked processor. Either off the bat or when OP decides to drop in such a processor later down the road. A G3258 chip would go nicely on a B series board on an LGA 1150 socket as the microcode for overclocking the Pentium now comes shipped with the boards.

However that should be clarified by the OP. We aren't here to provide regimental advise builds but rather builds that cater to the OP's needs.

If you could be kind enough to edit your initial post, Dean Rendell, and include all the details found here:

it would help users visiting this thread to provide educated and decisive advice on your build for a max of 600 quid.

Bossmanfrom thehood,
Please refrain from attacking others who are offering advice.

*A user coming from a prebuilt machine would need to be guided towards a bios update instead of encouraging them to do something they haven't done before with a grain of salt as motivation.*
