Which should be upgraded first?

Heyo. I'm not the most experienced with computer hardware or compatibility or speeds or anything really. Great with software and actually USING the computer, but not with building. Lol!

My question is this... Based on my computer specs... Which should be upgraded first? CPU or GPU, or would they BOTH have to be upgraded to see any large improvement?

Specs:
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 MoBo
GIGABYTE WindForce Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 GPU
Intel i5 3570k overclocked to @ 4.4ghz CPU
16 GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX Blu @ 1600 RAM (memory)
1 TB SeaGate HDD
128 GB Toshiba SSD (this contains Windows and Arma - the rest goes on the HDD)
750W Corsair PSU

Thanks

Going to Haswell isn't worth the cost. The GPU should be done first.

OP, you have one of the best gaming cpu's you can buy. I would wait for the next gen GPU's from Nvidia to come out, at the very least. You have a really solid rig still.

The CPU will most likely be able to keep up with pretty much any modern card. I'd upgrade the GPU first, though your current one is pretty good.

Keep in mind that upgrading the CPU to anything beyond Ivy Bridge will require a new motherboard as well.

I was afraid people were going to tell me that my rig was good. Lol. And it is. It runs all games full ultra no problem, however I could deal with a few more frames out of Arma III. It's a really shitty engine and is extremely intensive on today's computers.

I have been getting some mixed responses with this topic. Some say CPU. Some say GPU. Some say why?

So how about this... Would I be completely throwing money down the toilet if I got a mirror-match GTX 770 for SLI on the same 3570k? Would the 3570k be able to fully withstand the power of 2 770s or would it start to bottleneck?

Oh, and would my PSU be able to hold up with another 770?

Put your build together in PCpartpicker. It will give you a wattage estimate. Your 750w might be pushing it a bit. I know I need a PSU upgrade if I wanted another 7970. I don't intend to as I want to rebuild my system into a Mini-ITX Xeon E3 rig. Haswell is only 5-10% better than Ivy. Changing platforms is a waste of $$$. Your i5 can handle another 770 just fine. I would check and make sure what you play supports SLI, though. If they don't, it is wasted $$$ also.

While waiting for a reply to THIS post, I will go put my build on PCpartpicker. Never heard of it before. I'll give it a shot. I really love my 3570k. It's a little workhorse!

OH I should mention my 770 has 2gb of Vram not 4. Probably some notable information.

So here's my next one for ya... What's with the new cards I'm hearing about? Do ya got a good link for me to read up? Maybe if I can be patient enough for the new gen of card I can outperform 770SLI and just get a new card all together. And this time I'm getting a 4gb not 2gb dangit!
