ive been getting random freezes since i got my R9 280X. i had a 7970 OC. ive turned off my over clocking settings, installing updates, many things.

and when i overclock it to the max. the games i play come up with squares in a grid type so u cant see the game, then it crashes. but my PC has been constantly freezing since i changed my graphics card.

Could it be another problem? like the hard drive or the RAM, but it started when i got my new GPU. also, my hard drive is nearly full. in task manager it always hits 100% usage. (Hard Drive)

What psu do you have? It might just be a faulty card. Did you use driver sweeper?

i did the driver sweeper. it did speed up my pc a little bit. but didnt fix the problem. its brand new. so you think it could be the graphics card?

I know the 7970 is similar tdp but I need to make sure it's not the psu. Can you put the 7970 back in?

I'm thinking it's just a faulty card but a 7970 dying and your new card artifacting tells me it could be something else. In either case you need to rma the 280x. I don't see a mobo model in that list. What is it? Is this a prebuilt?

This is a custom build PC. i just googled my specs. and i put the graphics card myself. i could take it out then put it back in and see if that works.

and ive noticed, it happens ever 1hour to 2 hours. and while playing a game. without playing games, it doesn't freeze for a couple of hours. and everyday, when i turn it on at 3 o'clock. it always shuts down around 4 o'clock, but only after it hits 4 o'clock, it it'l last to 5 o'clock max. then restart.

If you did OCed your card, you don`t have stable clocks.

For Sapphire R9 280X which clock to 950Mhz change to 1000Mhz with 1.3V. It is a good clock.

Edited:

It`s OK. just bump your voltage a little to 1.31

i had it freeze while doing stuff on Photoshop and once though titanfall. but it only does it like, 30mins - 1 hour while im playing. its weird, cause dont freezes normally happen straight away.

Oh man, I mean 1130 voltage not 1300. But it's OK though.
This settings, CPU clock = 1000; Memory Clock= 1425; VDDC= 1131.

I got that stable.

you have to tell us what that PSU is. if it's a good brand PSU you'll see it's name immediately when you look at it. i'm using a sapphire 280x as well (dual x version), it's working fine. can you use radeonpro and use game profiles to overclock? that's what i'm using as this card tends to go ballistic (full 1.2ghz core) even when playing old rusty games.

Soz sometimes my msg's dont send. my voltage wont go above 1299. and i did post my psu. 'this is my PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
but i did not buy it from here.' and the TRIXX program didnt come with the drivers. i had to manually download them.

Lower your VDDC to 1130. That causes the crash.

I dismissed the oc reason since you said it happened ever since you got the card... why would you deceive us.

well, i think its fine now, ive ran it for 5 hours straight, no freeze. ever since i lowered the OC settings and bumped up the voltage at the same time. but i was going to post back in a day or something to tell u if its fixed or not.

Ive been looking around. and the average memory clocking is 1700. mine is on 5500, is that too much, should i lower it?

5500 is your effective, that would be 1375 actual. The stated memory clock is the actual which is what's stated in trixx. But stock is core 850, boost 1000, memory 1500. If you have to underclock to be stable then there is an issue.
