Hi all

Everytime I log into my laptop and when the desktop has loaded I get an error saying that

"Lua.exe has failed to start because the file Lua5.1.dll is missing"

I have done a virus scan and malware scan and nothing was picked up.

I did a system restore to a previous date and the error dissappeared but then re appeared after awhile

My laptop is an Acer 8943G running Windows 8.1

I have searched on the net but havent really found a solution

Can some help please

Thanks

Find the program that's being started and remove it. All that you've done so far is disable the attempt to start it at login time. The executable is still there by the looks of it, but it can't find the linked library because that part has been removed.

Just tried system file checker and it did not pick anything up

About to try the DISM tool you have mentioned but before I try it what does it actually do because on that link its says something about a windows image.... Im not really knowledgeable about computing in a great amount of depth

Thanks

Hi could you please explain what the DISM tool does as I need to get this sorted

Thanks

At one point you installed an application that uses the LUA scripting language, such as Rainmeter. This application wasn't removed correctly and is failing to start on login.

You won't find anything using scanning tools because there's nothing malicious about it.

Hi thanks for replying

I do have rainmeter but it was running fine even thought the error keeps coming up. I have uninstalled it but the error is still there. I then downloaded a newer version of rainmeter and installed it but im still getting the error. What can I do?

thanks

Check the startup programs to find out which one is invoking that particular version of LUA.

What should I do about them?

Thanks

Disable them until the culprit is found!

Okay so I disabled the one with "startup impact" on medium and restarted but the error is still there and now when I check the startup list the 3 "lua" entries are not there :S

Okay Ignore the above post

I have disabled them all and the error has disappeared. Now what do I do to find the problem and fix it?

Thanks
