recovered stolen laptop was wiped and reloaded with window 7. Can I recover any of my files?

Probably not unless the person who wiped it used the manufacturer's factory reinstallation discs and chose to keep the old data (is it a custom build or a brand name?). If they used a standard OS installation disc and formatted the drive before installing then it's pretty much gone. Go to my computer and see if there are any partitions, if not it might be under C:\files\ or something. If you know the names of any of your old files search the HDD for those keywords. I think the directory where old data is placed differs between manufacturers...

Most likely not. There a very few, very expensive data recovery methods for stuff that is important. But, there is the possibility of corruption in the files.
