It's a Seasonic S12II Bronze 520W. Additional specs:
*i5 3470 (stock speeds, not overclocked)
*Mobo: Gigabyte H77-DS3H
*8 (2x4) GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM.

According to the eXtreme PSU calculator, (with 10% capacitor aging), 511 Watts are required. My PSU is classified as a Tier Two Class A .

I'd think you'd be alright. PSUs aren't extremely expensive, so if you wanted to be super safe, you could pick a 750watt up for about $100

It should. You might be pushing it by then but as long as you don't run furmark and p95 at the same time I think you'll stick within PSU requirements.

It will work fine on your Seasonic. That model outputs 550w on the 12v rail continuously - tested by me. I have an r9 280x on the same PSU and it only draws 450w in full load prime95+furmark on an overclocked quad core. You'll be fine as the r9 290 doesn't draw that much more power because of new architecture. I absolutely guarantee you it will handle the card with no problems.

So it should work fine, but it will push the unit to it's limits; and it'd be better to get, say the 620W version of the M12II Bronze?

Pushing a Seasonic to its limit is nothing to be worried about as they can operate over the rated specs. The only things that would be better about getting the 620 version is lower noise from the psu.

Especially under 24/7 load you might want a bit more power but it will power your machine. You might want to upgrade later though.
