Ok so my build is:

Nvdia GTX 650
AMD FX 8350
RAM 8 GB
PSU CORSAIR 550w
stock coolers
I get around 120 fps but another PC with an inferior build can max out 300fps. Where lies the problem?

Also to state that I have a shitty monitor, 1280x720 max reso(which could be the problem, but less likely imo.)

More about : low fps good system

Unless you have a 144hz monitor you don't really need more than 120 fps. Turn off v-sync, motion blur and anti-aliasing. Type in console fps_max # (if your monitor is 60hz, then type fps_max 61).

Source engine only uses 2 cores really, so its likely that the i5 in the other computer is causing it to run faster.

I use a Celeron G1610 with a 7850 (I know, a bottleneck) and I never go below 60.
Are you telling me that my celeron's 2 cores are stronger than 2 of FX8350's cores? lol
