What's up forums
I'm always looking for way to modify my rig. Right now I'm looking for a way to cut down on energy costs. Is there a way to fit my rig with solar panels to split the amount of power being used between my apartment utility and said solar panels or if i'm lucky to completely power my desktop through solar. I already have a mouse and keyboard that's solar powered so I know there might be possible

1. Pay to get solar panels installed.
2. Run the PC.

Thats basically the only way I can see you solar-powering your PC, as I doubt there is any portable or smaller solution that can generate the wattage. Keyboard and mouse, your talking maybe 20W, typical gaming PC can consume between 50 and 450W.

Secret part of plan
3. Generate more than you need, sell back to the grid.
4. ???
5. Profit

Assuming your PC is a normal one, with a single low to mid class gfx card and no overclock:

If you have a roof where you can put about 3 sq meters (about 30 sq feet) of solar panels then you could run the PC on sunny summer days for a few hours around noon.
(The panels need to be placed facing south, and at an angle that corresponds to your latitude for maximum efficiency).

If you want to use the PC all the time then you could add batteries that you can charge when the sun is up, but you would need to increase the panel area too. I think double area will be needed).

Look at solar for the actual house, instead of just the PC. Many, many things in the house are far more energy sucking than the PC.

Or just reducing usage/energy draw on those other things.
