I own an MSI GT660 laptop.
It came with a i7 740qm processor.
I just bought an i7 640m processor.
I get a black screen.
I flashed the latest BIOS e16f1ims.10L
Same thing.

The laptop uses the intel PM55 chipset which is listed as compatible with both processors:
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Intel_%28chipsets%29/PM55_Express.html

Any hope of getting this to work?
The i7 640m has AES encryption built-in, thus the reason for the upgrade.

Ahh. I did a google for "MSI GT660 replace CPU" and tripped over a little grumbling about MSI not keeping compatibility lists up. So I'm going to duck out of this thread and guess that if it doesn't work it isn't going to.

Anyone out there know if the AES code needs chipset support, like a TPM or something?

Thanks for trying.
I am on a forum I found where you pay a tech to make a custom bios for your MSI gaming laptop. The forum is supported by MSI, believe it or not:

p.s.

This tech called SVET on that forum has already added raid for someone with my laptop and they had a non-raid machine like I do. All his BIOS's are unlocked also.
