Hello,

About last week I made a thread about ram compatibility. What I decided to do was just buy the exact same model to avoid any issues. But i ended up running into one anyways. So i get the module and install it and get a black screen and what i don't understand is why? They're exactly the same KHX1333C9D3B1/4G x2 4gb ea. I was thinking of updating the BIOS but don't know if that's even going to help. My mobo is a ASUS P5G41T-M LX.

They're both 4gb DDR3 1333 CL9 and the only difference between them is the heat shield which i don't think even matters.

Should work. Better would be a kit - that's been testes as a kit.

Your mobo - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5G41TM_LX/specifications/ has 1333 OC max dual channel.

Did you enable XMP so both sticks are running at 1333?

Is the ram listed on the Qualified Vendors List (QVL)?

Oops, I should have stated that I already had 1 stick for about 2 years and just this week i wanted the extra 4gb for a total of 8. And no, I don't think it was listed on there but 1 stick works fine, my old one that is.

Even with the same CAS level, there are also timings that matter as well. If one stick has a heat spreader and the other one doesn't, they are not exactly the same.

You can always try swapping the sticks to reverse their order. The memory timings are normally read from the lowest numbered slot on a motherboard, so swapping them might work.

Updating the BIOS is also a good thought, as updates frequently improve memory compatibility.

They both have them. They're both Hyper X blu modules except my old one has a different design to it. But yeah, I will definitely try those suggestions, thanks.

XMP only applies to DRAM 1600 and above

In your other thread I responded "May or may not work....any time you mix DRAM it can be and often is problematic... I'd check w/ Kingston"

You could pull 10 consecutive sticks off an assembly line and maybe out of all ten only find 4 that will play nice to make a four stick set...Sticks in a package are tested to work together. Often a 4 stick set costs more than two 2 stick sets because it takes more testing to find 4 that will all play nice

Well, I just tested that one stick alone and it did not work either. Guess its just incompatible. I really wanted the 8 gigs, now i guess i have to find a kit that will actually work with this mobo.
