Hey everyone, Im trying to figure this out for my fiance, I own my own computer, and it runs origin just fine, no problem connecting online etc. I bought her the Sims and she played for a while, (this is when she was playing on windows 8) then she updated to windows 8.1 and now she no longer can run sims or origin. I have tried everything to get it working.

1) Added it to firewall list, shut off firewall also (no internet connectivity)
2) under internet options, No VPN thing to delete, also unchecked the LAN proxy. (Still no Internet connectivity) (The laptop is using wifi)
3)Uninstalled, Reinstalled. (Still no internet connectivity)
4) Deleted old games under (Origin Games) and reinstalled Origin (Still no internet connectivity.)
5) Ran it in compatability mode (Windows 7) and (Windows 8) there is still no internet connectivity.

There are no security programs, though I will be installing Vipre security (I use it on my computer without any problem to origin)

I want to run the sims 4 (just bought it this tuesday) and Sim City (With future expansion) and i am trying to figure out whats wrong. I know its not the laptop, because before it was upgraded to 8.1 sims 3 worked perfectly fine, but as soon as we upgraded it to 8.1 it basically stopped working ever, it wouldnt let me log in, or anything. (since it required me to be online to log in)

also this may be a symptom to the problem. But her windows store also stopped working as soon as we upgraded to 8.1, although thats not the problem, its possible it could indicate a similar issues? Anyway thanks for any help yall can provide.

I posted this on the EA forum, but as EA has such a "successful" ability to solve this (they havent, i have searched their forum) and hoping for a better result here, you guys helped me with a lot of my hardware problems, im sure yall can shed some light on this as well. Thanks!

Have you checked the drivers, after the update? May have to manually load them to a thumb drive to load them to the laptop. Had that issue with my wifes Asus laptop, drivers just got all screwy as all the updates where being performed.

Well if as you say your connecting to Origin from the Wi-fi of the laptop, and you have made exceptions in windows firewall.
And eve turned it off, to still no avail.

Your next step in the chain is to log into the router the laptop is connecting to if you can.
The three things to check to get the game to connect and work are these.

First of all the router will have a hardware firewall, If it is set to high then set it to medium.
Next make sure Upnp in the router is enabled.

For your last step there is a section in the menus of the router called forwarding, or port forwarding.
What you need to do is find the IP address of the laptop the router gave it.
You can do this in some routers via a menu or listing of connected devices.

Once you have the IP of the laptop the router gave it.
In the port forward section , you must give the setting a name eg Orgin.
Next your asked for the IP of the Machine.
The next box should be port address. and where you put the port to be opened.
Eg. 12554 or starting port from 12554 -12558 to open a set number of ports in a set range
You last box is the type of protocol used with the open ports of the IP of the selected machine.
UDP or TCP each or a setting to use Udp/Tcp meaning its applied to both for one entry or setting of the port range.

Bellow are all of the ports that may need to be opened in a router to allow connection to origin, or when a game cannot connect on a machine via a router.

TCP: 80; 443; 9960-9969; 1024-1124; 18000; 18120; 18060; 27900; 28910; 29900
UDP: 1024-1124; 18000; 29900

Here is another problem, it's a college style apartment, no access to the wifi or the router.

Time to have a word with the IT guys then, I would say it`s down to the fact some ports are locked down or need to be opened. by them.

oh yeah, if you dont have control of the signal being generated, you are gonna need another source then to separate the issue. Too many guys in that environment will ignore you or say the issue is not on their end as they dont have a problem connecting. Can go to a another location and test the wifi, if it is still having the issue, will be computer, if it works, then get with the buildings IT guys.

So what would I tell them what ports need to be opened or whatever

Ok then, you can assume that the issue is on the computer side not the signal side as it was previously theorized. Would check the drivers for the network controllers, possibly even reload them. Is it network connection period or just the Origins?

If internet is fine then the drivers are good to go, since it is only on the Origins side of the house I would look into the suggestions others are offering. Another thing I can suggest would be, I think Origins uses a https so you may check and see if your SSL and TSL boxes are checked. I have heard of it but never seen it myself when accessing certain certificated sites..
