Headset Ohm questions

Ok, so I bought a new headset, the HyperX Cloud Gaming Headset, and I want to know if I should be using and amplifier or not. The headset runs at 60 Ohms and has 53 mm drivers, while my mother board is an Asrock Extreme4 Pro. I can not, for the life of me, locate any info that even hints at the answers I am looking for. I know how Ohms and impedance work, but not well enough to gauge if the standard on-board audio is capable of giving me the kind of sound I am expecting. If you can shed some light on this matter I would be very grateful. Thanks.

There's another specification you should look for, as important as the impedance: sensitivity (often in dB/mV). Anything above 90dB/mV should be fine without an amp (unless we're talking about headphones with extremely high impedance, like some Sennheisers or Beyerdynamics which have a 600ohms impedance).

But in the end, I doubt any of this matters, since we're talking about a gaming headset, which is made to be used with computers and not expensive audio gear.

The best way to be sure your sound output has sufficient power is to try it, but I really doubt you would need an amplifier.

Edit: just checked the specs, your headset is rated at 98dB/mW, which is moderate. You shouldn't have any issue.

A headset with 60 Ohms would be kind of middle of the pack. Something like Sennheizers have about 300 Ohms. Cheap ear buds might be 12 Ohms. The higher the Ohms the harder it is for electricity to flow. Consequently, the lower maximum volume you can get. Will you need additional amplification? Only after listening tests can you really determine that. Simplest thing is test it and see if you think it is loud enough. If not, then come back and ask for amplifier recommendations.
