I've just built my first computer on the X79 platform, I have 32 gb of 1866 ddr3 ram and an i7 4820k overclocked at 4.5 Ghz roughly. I'm really wanting to upgrade already I want my computer to be crazy powerful due to the fact I will be getting into engineering (I'm only 16). I was thinking of saving up for a i7 5960X, Asus rampage V mobo and to buy two sets of 16gb DDR4 ram @3000mhz to total up to 32gb, right now I just do a lot of gaming and what not but want to be ready for what I'm doing and want the best of the best. These should all work together right? I just like making sure before I start saving for things

Do you really need a $1000 octo core cpu?

For half that price you can get the i7 5930K which even though only has 2 cores less than the 5960X is still very very close in performance on most apps.

When you say just built, do you mean like in the last 2 weeks? If so then I'd get a X99 system to replace that x79 motherboard.

Unless you're going into heavy CAD, 3d modeling, or extremely heavy video editing, there is almost zero need to get a haswell-e processor. Even then I'd probably push you away unless you were already professionally doing it and could justify spending $3-5k on a new system right now. If you need an upgrade, you'd be better served getting a Titan or R9 295x2 or something if you're wanting to drop a ton of cash. Otherwise, I'd say hold tight and wait for Skylake, the 800/900 series from nVidia, or whatever updates are coming to AMD GPUs.

Ill go with the 5930k I forgot that only the 5820k doesn't have the 40 pcie lanes because I do eventually want to run quad sli
