when I connect my laptop (acer ,window 8) to my TV (Toshiba) through HDMI, there'e no signal

trying to resolve the problem I am having with connecting my laptop (Acer ,window8) to TV (Toshiba) through HMDI, any help ?????????????????

Make sure the signal on your TV is the same as the input the HDMI is in( i know this sounds simple but this happens to me a lot). you could also try going under (personalize> Display>Screen resolution - This is for windows 7 but i think its the same) And try clicking the identify/detect buttons and see if that changes anything.
