The IR receiver is on the USB stick - do you have line of sight from the remove to the USB stick?

The only thing I can think of is a possible driver issue with the IR blaster.....Does Avermedia have Windows 8.1 drivers on their website?

Even with the best supported devices, there are issues with different versions of Windows - and some companies offer solutions quicker than others in supporting their devices. I utilize a HTPC at home (removed all cable boxes), and have a Silicondust HDHomerun Prime cable card tuner that serves the whole house with 3 tuners and DVR service (XBOX's are used at TV's).

The XBOX is supported well - with Microsoft having a remote that works well. I have an ancient IR blaster that came with the original PC purchased in 2006 (it was an HP that didn't support HD programming). It works with Windows 7 - but still not supported with Windows 8.
