ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 posted, but while installing windows, the system shut down

I tested externally, posted, installed guts to case, double checked everything

Posted, and started installing windows 8.1 got to the point where I had to pic colors and as soon as I hit continue, it started going to the next menu and then the system shut down.

Now I turned the PSU off, back on, hit power, the red light for the CPU came on for a split second, the fans turned one cycle, and then it just shut down again.

I pulled the chip, no bent fins, eliminated G card, RAM, optical drives, SSD, it still does the same thing.

is it possible the MoBo gave out that quickly? any other ideas?

ASUS sabertooth 990FX R2.0
2x 4G 1600 RAM
Crucial SSD 256GB
ASUS ATI R9 280 3GB

Make sure its not your PSU , post its model

EVGA super Nova 750W PSU.

cannot do a reinstall since I cannot get the system to stay on for longer than .5 seconds

Sounds like a power or heat problem. Check your fans first - make sure they all are spinning properly. Next, I would swap the PSU. Usually last is replacing the mobo.

Remove the drive and see if it posts. Fit an internal speaker - http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm

removed the drives, SSD and blu ray, fitted the internal case speaker, but it doesnt stay on long enough to beep at all

Alright try reseting the CMOS .

took out the battery, and waited, then reinstalled, same issue. power on, .5 seconds later (no beeps) shut down

Try and remove your graphics card and connect your display via the HDMI output on your mobo .

Could be a weird earthing problem, seen it many of times.
Try bread boarding the system, remove the components from the case and set it up on the motherboard box.

So I have been asking around, and the consensus is that the MoBo was defective and allowed the CPU to heat/burn up. RMA'ing both to NewEgg.

Hi,
I know this might be a little late, but I had the exact same problem, it turned out to be the PSU OK Voltage was low. This can be checked out by doing the paper clip jump start on your PSU.
Changed the PSU and no problems after that.
I just thought this might be of help to some one in the future.
