Hey Guys,

My rig:
CPU: AMD Phenom II 965 Black Edition
Mobo: Asus M4A89GTD PRO USB3
GPU: Asus Radeon HD 5830 1GB GDDR5
Memory: 8GB 4x2GB Kingston PC-10600 (1333MHz)
SSD: OCZ Vector 256G
HDD: Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black

Want to upgrade my graphic card to Asus Radeon R9 270X 2GB DirectCU II, because my old card cant handle ArcheAge very well, worth for an upgrade? if not please advice what would be the best upgrade (in terms of value for $$) :)

Thanks

You are sure the GPU is the bottleneck here? The CPU isn't maxed out while playing? The only reason I ask is because that CPU is just on the cusp of the recommended hardware requirements I could find for ArchAge, while the GPU was a little above it.

i have played archeage on my system. i have i7 and gtx 780. with full graphics and directx11 archeage consumes lot of resources.

i guess u have to upgrade ur cpu as well if u are gonna upgrade ur gpu. If u want u can go ahead with the upgrade and if u feel there is a bottleneck then later on upgrade ur cpu as well. anyways upgrading ur gpu alone will help u with the graphics in archeage.

You will most likely need to upgrade both your GPU and CPU if you wish to see a decent performance increase in ArcheAge. The R9 270X is a good mid - high range GPU. You just need to purchase a better CPU and you will be good to go. I recommend one of the AMD FX series processors such as the FX-6300 or FX-8120. Please forgive me, I would post a link to the cheapest option for those CPU's but I am using my phone.

Hi, I can run ArcheAge on medium setting (Direct 9x) smoothly but as for the highest setting, the FPS drop to a point where I can notice graphic lag, and hence I think bottleneck should be GPU? or am I wrong?

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, if I'm going to upgrade CPU, most likely I will join the Intel Camp, and that means new mobo for me as well...I was told that Phenom is better than FX series in terms of gaming?

For now my finances wont allow me to do major upgrade, so either CPU or GPU... I'm more lean toward upgrading GPU tho, because later I can upgrade mobo + CPU if I have more cash...

It's probably GPU yes, but to be sure can you run in windowed mode and check the task manager for processor usage while playing? if the CPU is already running near max, adding more graphics power might give you diminishing returns for your money.

The higher end FX series processors are far superior to the Phenom processors. The AMD FX-9590 is currently AMD's most powerful CPU. Upgrading your GPU would be a smart move in order to gain a decent boost in performance.

Get a 280X and enjoy. It should be little bottlenecked but difference will be huge.

You are basically sitting on the best cpu for that mobo (technically it's the phenom 2 x6 1100 but that change would not be worth the money for you)

Go ahead and upgrade the gpu if your power supply can handle it, and at a later time update your mobo/cpu.

I believe 7970 ghz edition performance has enough juice to get 60fps average with a proper cpu on that game.

280X would be your best bet. Better performance and fewer driver problems.

If you're looking to upgrade CPU and motherboard later, get the GPU regardlesss of the bottleneck. It'll then be good for when you upgrade too. The suggestions given about the 280X is a good bet if your power supply can handle it, and when you get the faster CPU the performance will be excellent.

Drapacioli is right. You will see a large performance increase with the 280X already installed when you upgrade to a better CPU and MOBO. Only upgrading to a 280X will increase performance but not by a massive amount without updating the CPU and MOBO. You will experience CPU bottlenecking until then.

as I said in the 3rd post you wont get improvement with a new cpu. is third teir cpu you wont have any issues with it at al.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-o...
its basically equal to the i7 950 i have both of them and they are more or less the same for gaming sure it a few generation old but i also have I 3 4400 and an i5 3570k and a a10 7850k they all run games about the same with the same gpus your CPU is not your bottle neck its the (Graphic card)

You will need a better CPU and MOBO if you wish to get the best performance out of the R9 270X. Otherwise your CPU will bottleneck your system. Intel Core i5-4690k would be a perfect budget Intel CPU. I am not a motherboard expert and do not feel confident enough to advise on what MOBO world be best. I will allow someone else to take care of choosing a MOBO for you.
