I just received the EVGA GeForce GT 730: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487052

I'm putting it in an older Dell system that has PCI-E x16 (1.0). My computer's documentation states that the PSU is rated at 375w, and I saw that the sticker says as much when I installed it. In all my research PCI-E 2.0 should be backwards compatible, and this card should work well with my PSU as it needs only 300w.

But on to the problem. I get no video whatsoever with this card installed. The fan spins, but no boot screen or anything. I can hear Windows start, but again just no display.

Is it possible my card is defective? Or is there more likely a compatibility issue? Computer is a Dell XPS 400, no onboard video. Thanks in advance for any help.

Solution
Last time I checked a PCI 1.0 slot will work with a 2.0 card but at a reduced rate (obviously), but last time I checked was well over 5 years ago now, so it might have changed (someone tell me if it has please).

What is your Dell model? If it has integrated graphics or that was your primary before buying the card, try hooking the video cable up to that and see if the display is going through there. You can also try to re-seat the GPU, you might not have put it in properly the first time.

The OP said they can hear windows start, if that's correct that means it's booting, but not displaying anything on the monitor.
