XSPC 290X waterblock backplate, can i go without it

Hi guys, so Im going down the watercooling route and I picked up an XSPC 290 block, however the back plate is now not available for another 3 weeks ( cant find it anywhere ). I have all the watercooling components aside from this 1 piece. My question is , can I just go ahead and install the waterblock and then add the back plate when it arrives ( I appreciate i will have to bleed the loop and refil, but im ok with that)

I just want to know if it is essential for the backplate to be on the card at installation

the back plate will help with card sagging, but there still needs to be something supporting the card, as the weight of the block will cause the card to bend, and eventually stop working all together.
